Quick and dirty info post
May. 14th, 2019 07:55 amName: Andromeda, or Andi for short
Species: Android
Appearance: 6'0", slim, black/blue hair, blue eyes, light skin. Can pass for human while dressed. While undressed, various seams can be seen that hide charging ports, emergency heat vents, system access panels, and so on. Weighs 115lbs due to being made of lighter components than humans.
Backstory: At some point in the future, humanity started sending out massive generation ships on centuries long journeys in hopes of reaching distant worlds and spreading our species across the stars. Most of them were never heard from again. Eventually, we discovered faster than light travel and made contact with the Galactic Federation and joined the community of sapient life across the galaxy.
One of the slower than light colony ships, long out of contact with Earth, paused in its three hundred year journey to investigate the ruins of an alien space station built by a highly advanced civilization (the Galactic Federation, although they did not know that at the time.). They scavenged a variety of advanced technology, including a method for building fully sapient androids. They built two prototypes based on what they gleaned from the ruins. A male appearing android named Ophiuchus and a female appearing androids named Andromeda. The two siblings (which is how they thought of each other) proved to be everything they were hoped for. Highly intelligent, physically powerful, and deeply curious about the world around them, and were generally adopted by the ship's research team.
Unfortunately, there was something wrong with Ophiuchus. About a year after activation, he started seeing himself as better than humans. Why not? He was stronger and faster, more intelligent (he thought), and functionally immortal. Humanity had created him, but now that they had completed their purpose, he saw no reason to keep them around. He tried to recruit Andromeda's help in getting rid of all the humans on the ship, but she was horrified and refused. She LIKED humans, and wanted them to see her as one of them. Eventually, they came to blows over it.
In the end, Ophiuchus sabotaged the life support system beyond repair. All fifteen hundred colonists died, gasping for air as the oxygen was used up, and Andromeda was unable to stop him. In return, Andromeda destroyed the ship's reactor, cutting power to their entire world rather than let Ophiuchus take control. In their final battle, Ophiuchus escaped in a badly damaged escape pod. Neither of them had access to any kind of power source, so a day or two later, both of them shut down from dead batteries.
One hundred and sixty years later, a salvage craft from the Federation found the ruins of Andromeda's home. She woke up to find herself on a ship crewed by an eclectic collection of aliens that were curious to see if she still worked. Her memory banks were highly damaged from decades of entropy and radiation exposure, leaving her with a largely mysterious past. Lacking anything better to do, Andromeda agreed to join the salvage ship's crew at least until she could repair her memory banks and find out where she came from.
Somewhere out there, Ophiuchus was also found. He was still a sociopath with a god complex, and he was still hoping to purify the universe of the disgusting organic life that filled it. At some point, they were destined to meet again.
Personality: Polite, curious, friendly, but also awkward, vain, and stiff. Andi is generally super stoked about meeting people and finding out about them. She figures that she's got a new lease on life and that the entire galaxy is out there just waiting to be seen. She's very much a "life is an adventure!" type of person.
That she only has the most fragmented snippets of her past, and that she was found on a ship full of dead bodies is something that weighs heavily on her mind. Part of her worries that she was responsible for what happened to that ship, even though she has trouble imagining herself doing such a thing. Her clearest memories are from shortly after she was first turned on. Everything after that first day of sitting in a lab and being poked and tested to see if she was working properly gets more and more fragmented. She doesn't remember anyone's names. Fortunately, her operating system includes a defragmenter that is VERY slowly repairing the damage, so she figures its only a matter of time before she gets at least some of it back and is mainly just killing time until that happens.
All of that is stuck behind the android shell. She is basically a very advanced computer, and relies on analyzing her environment in minute detail more than just relying on instincts or intuition, which seem weird and mysterious to her in concept. By first impression, Andi is formal, analytical, and often misses or misunderstands social cues.
Think half way between Vash the Stampede and Data from Star Trek.
Abilities: Andromeda is a robot. She doesn't need to eat, sleep, drink, or breathe, and can survive comfortably in poisonous environments or even the vacuum of space (though heat dispersal becomes a problem after a while if she can't get an atmosphere of SOME kind around her.). She needs access to a power source to recharge her battery, which lasts anywhere between 12-36 hours depending on how physically active she is being at the time. She is not much faster than a baseline human being, but significantly stronger and tougher. She has wifi and can interface with networks remotely. You know. Robot stuff.
